http://www.engadget.com/2015/06/18/media-molecule-dreams-is-for-youtubers-and-twitch-streamers/

Evans and Healey weren't quite so cagey when I asked them if Dreams would be a Morpheus VR launch title. Though the pair wouldn't outright confirm it, Healey admits "it's an obvious thing to do." Adds Evans: "Let's just say Anton Mikhailov, who helped build the first ever Morpheus prototype, is at Molecule now. ... So I'll leave it at that."

Also in erster Linie Spiel mit vielen kreativen Möglichkeiten.

You might be an FPS [first-person shooter] guy, so FPS is your entry. But as you're playing the FPS, you open the door and it's a fucking desert and you're in Journey. You walk out and then you're walking through the desert and then you see ... a spaceship and you climb into it. ... It sounds mad, but when you've framed it all as dream-like, actually you just get into it.
As for more traditional gameplay modes, Evans says that players can expect to see those bundled into the final product. Both he and Healey referenced the bubbles shown off at the end of this year's E3 demo as a tease of what that "game-like content" could be. "At Media Molecule, we're game makers so we're making games with it. So there will be Media Molecule content there. The scope of that is to be announced. But it will be there and it will be good," Evans says.

:toldyou:

“That’s another huge effort. It’s super exciting. It’s a completely new creation platform by Media Molecule. You can create and play games but you don’t have to be limited to that – you can also create art, animation and music. Everything is shared if you choose, so you can pick up objects from other people’s dreams and use them in your own creations. Creating 3D objects is really technical but the team has made it so that it is very intuitive to do so.

“We’re very excited to show more during Paris Games Week – this was just a little tease!”

Japanisches Interview mit Yoshida. Hier mal der Abschnitt über Dreams, mit Google Translate:
Japanisch -> Deutsch sagte:

Japanisch -> Englisch sagte:
- February 2013, at the time of the PS4 debut in New York, but it has conducted a demonstration.

Yoshida: Yes, you're right. Some, after having made a "Little Big Planet 2 (LBP2)" (January 2011), the main team of LBP2 I'm working on another DREAMS. It also took four years. In parallel a second team to make the Vita for a game called "Tearaway", LBP "3", has developed outside the company called Sumo Digital. The Media Molecule, and we've been making for four years DREAMS. when the PS4 has been unveiled in New York, called "pa pet tearing", you have to show you the way to move the doll, you mentioned, there I'm exactly the same projects and DREAMS.

Really ambitious project, and what is "second of Creation platform" of Media Molecule it were. And so on LBP. Also you can make the game. But it does not have to made. As people picture is good to paint, smooth you can draw a picture Innovation, you can create an animation, and Toka or create one of the works by a combination of material that other people have made, that kind of thing is to allow intuitive because ...... you Let's make such platform is the aim of that project.

The first place, and you'll do not use polygons to create the CG character to DREAMS. In general, to be able to create the CG characters in the polygon technology, Is not require proficiency commensurate. However DREAMS is to use the PS Move and DUALSHOCK, By moving in 3D space as I thought, so will be make a 3D model. If you'll do it in Morpheus, I I'm easy to make more. When various pushed so much in the demo, since not know whether I want to do what, this time we show you only a small simple part.

- That is, DREAMS is, it's Morpheus response?

Yoshida: you can even Morpheus. That, Let's make the intuitive things in 3D space, so lengthen the platform that. I can technically.

However, details of the project, at a later date "Paris Games Week" (held in France, Paris in October 28 - November 1), so you tell, fine thing for, is not the official. Either would much was fliers. If it is possible to imagine that "would integral with me?", The prospectus is success, it is a place such as. Formal unveiling, I think if you can wait for the Paris Games Week.

PS4 is the very easy to the environment that make the game, but it is, I'm just spectacular that they're trying to do. So it took a time. Media Molecule is for this, I make up a completely new graphics engine. As or cut in or chisel knead the clay, we can go ahead by the idea ...... Once made a 3D object in such a sense.

This year at E3 Alex Evans took to the stage to announce Media Molecule’s new IP for the PS4, Dreams. As he says himself, it is crazy and people may be left scratching their heads. This begs the question, “What actually is Dreams?”

Alex seems to wrap it up nicely in this one simple line, “A place where you can play and explore the dreams of others.”

However, this is still a little ambiguous and you would be forgiven for believing that Dreams is just an art tool or an advanced animation suite. If we look deeper into the words he says throughout the presentation it is clear that Dreams is much more than this.

If you are still confused then take a look back at the announcement. In contrast to the video he is talking over he consistently says, “PLAY PLAY PLAY!” (I might be paraphrasing slightly)

So the answer to, “What is Dreams?” Well, it is a development tool to make whatever you want. Games, animations, music, plays, ANYTHING! I think the best thing we have to look forward to here is that the community aspect will be strong. The most exciting thing for me is thinking about the collaborations, just like in LittleBigPlanet. Are you an aspiring game director? Music producer/composer? Artist? Gameplay programmer? You’re in luck with Dreams! Team up and make some games for the community!

How can I be so confident in what Dreams will be like? Well last year I went over to Media Molecule’s headquarters for a preview of Tearaway unfolded and also got a sneak peak at early development of Dreams. It looked fantastic back then, so I can only imagine how it will end up! With that said, let me know if you have any questions and I will answer as many as I can based on what they have already spoken about publicly themselves.

This is going to be fun.

GENERAL
- Dreams is LittleBigPlanet evolved (spiritual successor): The core idea of allowing players to create and share whatever they like remains, but the acts of content creation and consumption both are distinctly different.
- Accessibility is key for Dreams
- Dreams shifts creation into a 3D space.

REMIXING
- Anything that someone creates can be appropriated and repurposed: At some point you might see an element in a dream and you're like, 'I could take that purple elephant and [turn] it into my own creation. So we're hoping for this Lego-like moment where you realize that if you don't quite like how something works, you can mash it up and make it your own

HUBLESS CONNECTED WORLD
- Dreams is much more exploration and MMO-like. Rather than constantly returning to a home screen (like LBP had a hub); instead, it's more like Wikipedia. You search for cucumbers and you end up in Ohio farming and then you get to Batman.

ABOUT THE TRAILER
- [Debut trailer] “for Dreams was done in about two weeks. We took some playable levels and some non-playable levels, basically a cross-section of the content that we had. For example, the polar bear sequence comes out of a snowboarding game crossed with a guy who was building this polar bear character for his daughter.”

HOW YOU PLAY
- It's also indicative of how Dreams is meant to flow, particularly when you fire it up for the first time. Much like actual dreams, there's no story, no continuity that ties everything together… "The idea is that you explore. So you travel through this sequence of dreams of dream-like— I hesitate to say 'levels,' but initially I think they will be game-like levels."

BETA
- "Right now, the team at Media Molecule is working on a beta trial. We haven't got the details of when and what, exactly; that's what comes at Paris. "

Haley realized that it was time to move on from LittleBigPlanet and to a new project jusut after LittleBigPlanet 2, but Dreams is like the spiritual successor of LBP; and embraces a lot of the same key ideas.

The “main character” used by the player is referred to internally as “imp.” It’s going to be customizable, of course.

The engine is incredibly versatile. The obvious and strong visual it can offer is the “kind of loose and impressionistic” style, but you can also do an “incredibly tight and crisp” style. You also have control over shiny or metallic materials, glow effect, and recently they added a subsurface scattering shader that allows you to make things waxy and really lush [Editor’s note: subsurface scattering is normally used for translucency effects, especially on human skin].

The ambition with the engine is to let you create your own art style, even if there’s still a visual thumbprint, as you’re still using the same engine.

Media Molecule is trying to makethe game very non-technical, so everyone can pick it up easily and understand it. You don’t need to be an artist to use it, but it has a lot of depth and it can allow you to use and improve your skills. As an analogy, a child can use a pen, but if you practice and use different techniques you can do amazing things with it.

You will be able to create music in Dreams. One of the key guiding philosophies of Dreams is embracing the idea of a “performance.” The puppeteering scene from the PlayStation 4 debut conference is an example of how this idea applies to animation. It’s not about editing curves and moving keyframes. It’s about performing with the virtual puppets. That means that you can do it very quickly, but also that you can put a lot of emotion into it while you capture your performance.

Music is a very obvious element to apply this idea of performance to. The developer in charge has come up with “genius ideas” so that anyone can do amazing things with the game.

Media Molecule is going to make some initial content, that can be played out of the box, using exactly the same tools that will be available to everyone.

Asked whether other Sony first party studios provided some helpful tips on development, Healey confirmed, and mentioned that at GDC there’s a “Creative Director therapy session” he goes to, where they sit in a room and moan about the pain of being a Creative Director.

Asked whether the studio is aiming for 60 frames per second, he mentioned that it’s user created content, so they can’t stop people from making games that run slow, as it depends on what you put into your level. At the moment the creations they have been working on are “looking more like 30 frames per second,” but engine always get optimized towards the end, so they’re going to make it as efficient as possible.

Healey agrees that the game is perfect for VR, and the idea of having a virtual dream that you can explore seems like the ultimate Grail, but for now the studio is focusing on the standard PS4 experience, but it’s “a no brainer” that they will explore VR afterwards.

Doch kein VR?
