Darren Cox Leaves Nissan – What’s the Future for GT Academy?

Although GT Academy is now a worldwide phenomenon and requires the attentions of a cast of hundreds, a very small handful of people were responsible for getting the idea going in the first place.


One of those was Darren Cox, of Nissan Europe in those days. Darren has, this week, left his post as Global Head of Brand at NISMO, Nissan’s motorsports arm, to pursue his own projects with the IDEAS+CARS group.


Darren was one of the loudest and most passionate voices for GT Academy and has been instrumental in pushing the project from what seemed to be a speculation – can we turn a gamer into a racing driver – into what’s now seen as an alternative but legitimate way into world motorsport.

Damit steht hinter der Zukunft der GT Academy ein gewisses Fragezeichen, zumal PD mit der FIA einen neuen Partner hat, um virtuelle und echte Rennen zu verbinden.

Aber die GT:A können sie sich als Standalone sparen! Auf der PS3 sowieso...
Sinn macht es dennoch da sie hier eben noch vertreten sind. Ich spiele es ja selbst noch aber die schenk ich mir, außer da kommt was interessantes wie ein neuer Track oder so....

GTacademy will begin next month, (live events) here, the interesting thing is on which platform, might the beta be used? can see this happening.

The platform in the picture is GT6, just some fun for the press. Official details will be finalized by next month.

It's GT6, I was there. Just a Press event.

Not to keep banging on the same drum but that PS3 wheel stand is NOT related to this year's gtacademy, it was just a press event for test driving their cars and they announced when will be the launch event of this year's GTacademy (next month). this pod was there for entertainment and means nothing.

What does that mean for GTSport? no idea, it's likely the beta will be involved somehow but it's not unlikely the live events will use GT6.

So I did some digging and came up with this..... the person
who posted the video is friends of the director that shot the footage.
The director of the footage is from France and his name is Matthieu Jorrot.

New Nissan Motorsport Director Confirms GT Academy Will Adopt GT Sport in 2017

The relationship between Nissan and GT Academy seems to be well and truly over, as the brand appears to have all-but ended its relationship with the sole remaining driver. Jann Mardenborough, who won the competition in 2011 and has been part of the brand’s Super GT campaign in recent years, no longer has a spot in the factory GT500 GT-Rs for 2021.
