Deadpool game penned by regular writer

High Moon’s Deadpool game is being written by Daniel Way, the current regular writer of the anti-hero’s comic series.

Activision representative Dan Amrich outed Way’s involvement on his blog. Since Deadpool’s banter is one of the character’s most treasured traits, the news is likely to be welcomed by fans.

Deadpool was created by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza, and debuted in New Mutants before making his way to other Marvel comics and eventually his own line.

Although other writers have handled the stand-alone Deadpool titles, notably Victor Gischler on Merc with a Mouth and Joe Kelly on volume 2, Way is behind the current volume, which has run since 2008.

Deadpool is due in 2013, but Activision is yet to confirm platforms.

Deadpool: ‘We’re getting it right’ – High Moon

http://www.vg247.com/2012/08/23/deadpool-were-getting-it-right-high-moon/
Deadpool hasn’t fared well in other media, and let’s not even get started on his portrayal in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But Transformers developer High Moon Studios believes it’s going to do the merc with a mouth justice, and here’s why.

Speaking with AusGamers, High Moon’s game director Sean Miller about how much it respects the character and Marvel’s zany approach to his stories.

Miller explained, “We have, I think, an understanding of what makes Deadpool special and we worked with Marvel to make sure that we do; we’re getting it right. We’re staying true to the comic book roots of the character but also drawing from the things that we feel are successful in other areas; videogames, all of that other stuff.”

The best part, Miller said, is that Marvel has given the studio its full blessing, “We’re coming at it as fans saying, this is the game that we’d like to play as Deadpool. And the most exciting thing is that Marvel is totally behind it.”

“They’re on board with making this a fun experience, and they’re not afraid of making fun of the things that need to get made fun of. It’s the thing that excites them about Deadpool as a character – that it offers a different spin on the superhero universe”, Miller concluded.

Deadpool will stay true to the comics, says Miller, and he confirmed many similarities, such as voices inside the character’s head driving progressions, trash talking other famous Marvel characters like Psylocke and generally having a ball killing bad guys.

Deadpool will launch on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013.

Deadpool has been fully embraced by High Moon Studios, says firm’s marketing manager

http://www.vg247.com/2012/09/06/dea...gh-moon-studios-says-firms-marketing-manager/

Deadpool development will use lessons learned from the Transformers series, by tapping into a break through character which can grab mind share in the market, says High Moon Studios’ marketing manager Greg Agius.

Speaking with [a]listdaily, Agius said due to the success of War for Cybertron, Activision gave the studio more say in how Transformers: Fall of Cybertron was marketed as it will with Deadpool.

“We work symbiotically with the Activision team: they have the resources and mass market expertise, we provide assets and knowledge that bring everything close to the IP,” said Agius. “For a licensed game like Transformers it’s critical that you be IP accurate. You need to be a fan to talk to a fan. The look, feel and tone of all of our assets match our game perfectly.

“In fact in most of the time we’ve leveraged game assets to create our ads. With Grimlock and now Deadpool we have a knack for finding very unique characters. With so many games on the market you need characters that can break through and grab mind share.

“What we do best at High Moon is identify what it is that we as fans love about these characters and then use that as a core part of our campaign.”

Agius said Deadpool has literally “taken over High Moon,” as the has embraced the character fully.

“Being accurate to the character has already paid huge dividends with Deadpool’s game announcement at San Diego Comic Con,” he said. “We broke the fourth wall and took over Marvel’s panel, spray painted a Spider-Man billboard, and made everything look and feel Deadpool.

“The reaction has been glorious insanity. It’s amazing to see all of the new people we’ve now brought into the know on Deadpool. With tens of millions of hits to DeadpoolGame.com, fans are informing other fans.

“Activision and High Moon took big risks to do something fun and creative and millions are responding to it.”

Deadpool will launch on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013.

Mal schauen was daraus wird.

Domino added to character roster

Deadpool is shaping up to be a zany shooter from High Moon Studios that could do the ‘merc with a mouth’ justice. The studio has just added X-Force member Domino into the character mix, and Deadpool himself has broken the fourth wall again to answer a Q&A about her involvement in the plot.

Here’s the interview with High Moon – sorry, Deadpool – in full:

Deadpool, why did you choose to include Domino in your video game?

Dude, no brainer, man. Have you seen pictures of her? She is smokin’ hot. And if that wasn’t enough (it totally is) she also knows how to handle a gun which turns me on. She has a soft spot for pancakes in large volumes, loves blowing things up, knows my GUY (sorry, spoilers!) AND she owes me a date. (there’s the important part)

So this is kinda like that: a date. I figure her Mutant power will help her ‘get lucky’ with me. (we see what you did there) Cross your fingers for a happy ending! Did we mention that she is stupid hot?

Is Deadpool’s version of Domino different than how she is shown in the comics?

Why would you take a work of art like Domino and mess with her? She’s got that lucky feeling that a person wants to be a part of. Get us some of that! So my minions at High Moon modeled her sweet body into the game just the way Deadpool (that’s me) likes it. The fans will appreciate High Moon’s careful attention to (her bewbs) detail and clear love of the Marvel comic universe when they see her in game. It’s called craftsmanship!

How does Domino fit into the storyline? What are her motivations?

Whoa hey spoiler alert! How about this: You give us 60 bucks and then we’ll give you the answer. The ride is awesome, but the price of admission must be paid, you dig? It’s been easy leading the guys at High Moon to create my game with an epic story and fill it with loads of other Marvel hotties to battle with. (and against. and kiss)

Once we have your cashola then the exploration of this totally new and totally kick-ass game story crafted by me can begin! (don’t forget Marvel author Daniel Way) Oh yeah. Him. Right. So it’s a co-lab. That’s short for collaboration!

Deadpool, what excites you about having Domino in your game?

(bewbs) What? (be honest) Did you people read the answer to my first question? Sheesh. This is all for her. Neena deserves this shot at the big time. She works hard! (not as hard as ME) My game is gonna be HUGE and it will be perfect for her to skyrocket to the ‘A-list’.

Then she will owe me another date and we can get to second base, baby! (let’s steal second and go to third) There was that one time Domino tied me to a bed. THAT excites me! She said it was for my own good and so the X-Men wouldn’t look bad.

But we know what she was really after. (let’s do that again, soon) Guess her powers weren’t working that day. So yeah, what excites me about having Domino in my game? Totally bewbs.

High Moon confirms Cable will be joining Deadpool in his upcoming game. Expect bromance and a lot of bullets

Comic fans know that historically where you find Deadpool, it won’t be too long before Cable turns up. This is partly because Deadpool was introduced in X-Force, a book that Cable was leading at the time, and partly because they play so well off of each other. So it’s predictable that High Noon have announced that Scott Summer’s little boy will be appearing in their upcoming game.
Those readers who aren’t comic fans are probably staring at the picture of an old man with half a robot face and wondering how he can be the child of Cyclops. Well prepare yourself for one of the most convoluted back stories known to comics.
Nathan Summers was born to Scott Summers and Madeline Pryor, a clone of Jean Grey that everyone but Cyclops realised. X-Villain Apocalypse infected baby Nathan with a techno-organic virus that would kill him. Mother Askani (actually a version of his step sister Rachel who will never actually exist) came from the future and offered to save Nathan by taking her with him. In said future Nathan was trained to fight the oppressive reign of Apocalypse, and learned to love really big guns. Realising it was a war he couldn’t win he traveled back in time to fight Apocalypse before he got powerful. Shunned by the X-Men for loving guns, Cable set up his own team, X-Force, who didn’t have so much of a problem with killing. Deadpool was hired to kill him, but somehow they became reluctant best friends.
And that’s missing out some great details like he was brought up by Scott and Jean inhabiting different bodies in the future, and the evil clone of him that wasn’t infected with the T-O virus.
Domino, another character from X-Force, will also be appearing. She likes guns too, and has some handy luck powers.

Deadpool and the challenge of making a comedy brawler
Deadpool is famous for breaking the fourth wall in the comics, and so he does in the game. He's the only Marvel hero who's aware he's a comic book character, and here he's aware he's a video game character. He's acutely aware, in fact. In one early section, set just after Deadpool crash lands on the abandoned island of Genosha, he notes he must tackle the upcoming area alone after failing to wake any of the X-Men KO-ed by the crash. "It's almost as if it was designed with this in mind," he quips.
:D
Early on, after Deadpool meets up with on-again off-again partner in crime Cable, the mutant from the future insists Mr. Sinister is up to no good and must be stopped. Deadpool is bored to tears. "We may want to pay attention," insists one of the voices in his head. "This could explain a critical plot point." Deadpool ignores his own advice and shoots himself in the head.

Here’s Deadpool’s Revealing ESRB Rating
Surprise! High Moon and Activision’s Deadpool game is rated M in North America by the ESRB. The M-rating is for “Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Sexual Content, Strong Language”. Yup, that about sums Deadpool up. Here’s the full rating summary:

This is an action-adventure game based on characters from the Deadpool comic book franchise. Players assume the role of Deadpool, a mercenary on a mission to hunt down and capture an evil millionaire. As players traverse enemy strongholds, they use an assortment of melee weapons (swords, sais, giant hammers) and firearms (pistols, machine guns, shotguns) to kill human soldiers and mutant enemies.

Battles are frenetic and accompanied by screams of pain, gunfire, and large blood-splatter effects. Some attacks result in dismemberment or decapitations; body parts and bloodstains can be seen on the ground. Players can also employ stealth attacks, in which close-up camera angles depict more severe damage against enemies. Throughout the game, the protagonist provides irreverent commentary and jokes amidst the exaggerated acts of violence (e.g., “No guts no glory” when hanging from his entrails; “Oh that’s gonna leave a mark” when dismembering an enemy; “That’s because you have more comics than me” when repeatedly beating a character on the ground).

The dialogue also contains mature humor, sexual material and innuendo (e.g., “Two less herpes cases to worry about,” “The pipe I was offered gives way more pleasure,” “So if I flip a coin, what are my chances of getting head?”). Other instances of mature humor include an extended toilet scene and the pumping up of an inflatable doll. During the course of the game, the protagonist is briefly shown reaching for and groping a woman’s breasts; in another, he is depicted grabbing an inflatable doll’s breast while in a hot tub. The words “f**k,” “sh*t,” and “a*shole” are heard in dialogue.

Deadpool is slated for release this year on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
