Best FIFA in the online gaming era
FIFA18 is the best FIFA to come out during the online gaming era. Let's say the last 6-8 years. You know why? Because it demands that you handle all parts of the game of football.
After the demo was released everyone was like "yes, finally, fuck you auto-defenders!". Until everybody played a few more games and started to understand they were relying on the auto-defense as much as the people they laughed about a few hours earlier.
Now, after the EA access for some people and the full release is coming around, this sub is loaded with posts with titles like "Congrats EA, you managed to make the first football game without goalkeepers", "Defending is fucking broken", "Every shot means goal", "Matches always end 11-7" and so on.
My take on why: because EA got their shit together and made FIFA18 a game about full blown football. It's really hard to win in FIFA18 unless you know how to defend properly. And it's really hard to defend properly if you don't understand the rhythm on the game. Charging up and down the field just doesn't work anymore, and IT'S COMPLETELY AWESOME.
I've played more interesting games so far in FIFA18 than I did during the whole year with FIFA17. Pace is, to me, no longer the only stat that matters. It's no longer viable to use pacey, small strikers as CMs or CDMs, since they will never be in positon to either pursuit nor cover passing lanes. The "Butland saved 48 shots against me" posts are no more, since it's not happening (another one of the funny kind of post noone here seem to remember they posted by the thousands like a year ago). Save percentage of the goalkeepers are much more realistic. And they are a really good part of the game of football FIFA18 is - if you know how to use your outfielders to defend in a good way.
So, for all of you complaining about everything: slow down your game. Re-evaluate if you should use only the pace of a player as a baseline of whether or not he is a good option. Set a system to how you defend and don't bum rush every single situation.
I packed David Silva in my "returning player packs" and decided to go BPL this year (I'm usually a devoted Calcio A guy), and the impact my dear friend David Silva has on my games is fucking wonderful. Would never happen in FIFA10-17.
So, sorry to say, but it seems to me I'm just about as happy about everything in this new FIFA, as everybody else seems to be angry. I think you'd feel the same way if you calmed down and found the new ropes a bit instead of being angry the ropes now have a different color.
Anybody else feel like I do?
