( READ ATTACHED PRESS RELEASE ) Rumors have been circulating for a couple years now that Sega would be developing another installment in the Shenmue series and earlier this morning, via the Shenmue website, in confirming some of the more recent rumors, Sega and JC Entertainment jointly announced a business alliance that will see the co-developing and publishing of Shenmue Online. A break from the rest of the series, Shenmue Online will fit into the massively multi-player online (MMOG) genre, and will have players set in the 1980’s, as militants making use of mysterious powers, kung-fu, various Chinese weapons, and Qigong realt-time fighting.
As part of the newly signed deal, JC Entertainment will manage content development for the title, as well as online game operation and marketing, with Sega responsible for content development, licensing related to territories (excluding Korea which will be handled by JC), and ongoing game development. Meanwhile, company T2 Technology Holdings Inc will be handling the operation of Shenmue Online in China. Shenmue Online will go into private beta testing during November 2004, followed by an open beta, and its eventual launch during Spring 2005 for the PC platform
