Hey all,
Fabien from TDU2.fr posted another great article which I translated the most important parts. You can also get a google translation if you prefer
Car models
He was standing 1 meter away from the screen, which allowed him not to miss any detail, as small as the animation of water drops on the ground
Eden even modeled what was BEHIND your aesthetic bumper cover, just in case you "lost" that bumper. I don't know if this means you actually could.. but it's interesting.
Upon zooming on the LED's, Fabien says they're extremely well crafted and you can see each one is separately drawn, and each one is a light source (so it's not just a generic headlight...)
Leather texture seems to be extremely realistic too
Dashboard buttons are also taken to the slightest details. Fabien calls it "crazy"
Sounds
Improved over TDU1. Not much details about this, but Fabien says a 5.1 system is a must-have!
Visual effects
Camera moves with acceleration/deceleration/steering G-forces
Camera shakes at higher speeds
Motion blur is more subtle than TDU1 but very realistic
Driving
You have a better "feeling" of the "grip" of the car
The weight of the car is "real"
According to Nadal, it's somewhere between Gran Turismo (realism = driving carefully) and Burnout (arcade = just having fun without being stressed out)
No more cutting through grass fields and keeping your speed. The car will slow down and skid.
Roads were much smoother (x4 times the polygons). Even on the worst road of the game the car was very stable
Car can still take off the ground at high speeds but it's much more realistic (no more high jumps)
Rollovers : at 200km/h, a crash results in 5 or 6 rolls!
Cars handle very differently : FR, MR, FF, weight, etc. Many factors have an influence here.
Driving aids have different levels and play an important role in how your car handle
Other facts
NO 900 degree animation support : it's not impossible, but the complexity of the animation along with gear changing animation makes it very complex. Eden put their time and energy elsewhere.
G27 LED's might not work at first but will be introduced at a later time, for certain.
At high speeds in TDU1, if you put only one wheel outside the road you would lose control, but in TDU2 it's much milder : the car keeps a straight line.
Conclusion : Fabien's expectations were very high and he told Eden about it. He says he was blown away (and reassured) with everything he saw. Most of the work is done and the beta (as we expect) is only to finalize and debug. He was also given the opportunity to choose his screenshot : any car at any place (will be posted soon).
