During NIS America’s Anime Expo panel, Souhei Niikawa, producer of the Disgaea series and president of Nippon Ichi Software, confirmed that they will make Disgaea 5. No screenshots or details were revealed since the news came from a Q&A session. Niikawa also asked fans to please wait awhile for further details.

Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten came out last September. Members from the Disgaea team are currently developing The Witch and the Hundred Knights for PlayStation 3, which is slated for release sometime in 2013.

New Nippon Ichi Games in Dengeki PlayStation

The biweekly Dengeki PlayStation leaks have started leaking, and Nippon Ichi appears to be one of the main topics. According to early reports from the usual flying get suspects, the magazine has first details on at least two new Nippon Ichi titles: Project Arcadia and Project D.

Project Arcadia is said to be a side scrolling action game.

Project D is said to be a game that will please long time Nippon Ichi fans and new fans alike.

Outside of these two game announcements, Dengeki also has first details on a movie adaptation of Nippon Ichi's visual novel series Hayarigami.

We're not sure of the validity of these reports, but we should have confirmation later in the day.

The reports also mention that Nippon Ichi will hold a press event on July 12, which is the date its recently opened anniversary site is set to go live.

We’ve known that Disgaea 5 has been in the works for a few months now. Nippon Ichi CEO Sohei Niikawa gave a small update to Dengeki Online, telling the Japanese publication that the game’s scenario is in the preparation stage. Niikawa hopes Disgaea 5 will be able to surpass the series’ first title when it finally launches.

This comes after the results of a survey by Dengeki in which fans voted for their favorite NIS games, excluding ports. The top 15 games are:

Niikawa stated that he will use these results as a reference, and if he was to make a Disgaea 4 D2, he would hope surpasses the original Disgaea 4. Also, Niikawa added that he is happy that the Hayarigami horror mystery series still has a strong fanbase (the first Hayarigami ranked #16). Along with that series, he will consider turning standalone games in the top 15 into series, Niikawa said.

Nippon Ichi Hope To Release New "Masterpiece" Titles This Year

It looks like Nippon Ichi Software recently teased a new game, and according to company president Sohei Niikawa, not only are they currently working on a brand new title for release this year, but two titles, and maybe even three.


“2013 was the 20th anniversary of our company’s establishment, and also the 10-year anniversary of Disgaea,” Niikawa said to 4Gamer. “The challenge is now for us to come up with two or three new masterpiece titles.


“In that sense, in the year 2013, I felt that it was huge that we were able to release The Guided Fate Paradox and The Witch and the Hundred Knight,” continues the Nippon Ichi Software president. “We intend to take on various challenges in the year 2014. As for myself, personally, I’m presently overseeing two current titles.”


“I apologize for not being able to share more details for now, but we’re currently preparing so we can release one title this summer and another this winter. Please look forward to it,” Niikawa concludes.

Unannounced PS4 Game in the Works at Nippon Ichi, to be Unveiled at TGS; “Good Start” for PS4 in Japan

Nippon Ichi Software has a whole three games in development for PS3 at the moment, but that doesn’t mean that the company isn’t looking at the next generation, as stated by President Shohei Niikawa during an interview on 4Gamer.
Of course, we’re developing a Title for PlayStation 4. I think we’re going to announce it at Tokyo Game Show.

Niikawa-san continued by saying that the new game is a secret, but it’s “a title most would expect.” He also added that in Japan some developers think it’s a little early to switch to the next generation, but looking at the world, it’s time to change focus to the PS4.
According to Niikawa-san the console is off to a good start in Japan and the shift to the new generation might happen faster than many have expected. That’s happening because many have been waiting for a new experience with the raise of the new hardware, and Nippon-Ichi wants to do a proper release for those that have been looking forward to that. Unfortunately that’s not possible for the current fiscal year, but it’ll come with the next alongside plenty other games.
Considering the fact that Nippon Ichi Software is probably the most consistent PlayStation-exclusive developer in Japan, it’s not surprising to see that they’re working on PlayStation 4. Unfortunately no further details were shared on the nature of the title (even if I’m quite sure most of us are already guessing something that starts with a “Dis” and ends with a “Gaea,”) but the cogs are spinning, and of course you can expect any further information to be covered here on DualShockers.

Nippon Ichi entwickelt neues Disgaea

04.07.14 - Nippon Ichi-Präsident Sohei Niikawa hat ein neues Disgaea-Rollenspiel auf der Japan Expo in Paris angekündigt, wie MiresuKun meldet.

Details nannte Niikawa nicht - im Herbst 2014 soll es dafür eine ausführliche Ankündigung des Spiels geben.

2 und 3 sind Plotwise auch nicht meine Favoriten. 1,4 und DD2 sind imo Story mäßig die besten Teile. Bin schon sehr gespannt welcher Rasse der Main Chara angehört.

Ne ab jetzt freue ich mich auch drauf. Ich muss immer noch in Teil 3 Platin holen. Als die Trophäen kamen hatte ich quasi alle Anforderungen schon erreicht. :/

Hab dann Teil 4 und D2 ausgelassen. Werde wohl Teil 4 auf der Vita nachholen und warten bis auch D2 auf der Vita erscheint. Aber bei 5 auf der PS4 könnte ich schwach werden.

Disgaea 5 Will Have The Most Volume Of Any Game In The Series

My life is over..

Nippon Ichi Software recently announced that Disgaea 5 is headed to PlayStation 4 during Sony’s pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference. While we only saw teaser during the conference, NIS shared a little more in this week’s magazine reports. [Thanks, Game Jouhou.]

Disgaea 5’s story will have the theme of “revenge” and will also have more volume than previous Disgaea games. There will be new systems as well.

The protagonist’s name is Kilia, a young demon boy who swears to get revenge against the demon emperor Void Dark. The heroine, named Seraphine, is a demon lord of the “Gorgeous Underworld,” and is the well-brought-up daughter of an upper-class family.

There’s also Usalia, who is the demon lord of some place called “Rabbit Rabbit World,” and has been affected by some curse that makes her go violent unless she eats curry.

The magazine report also has some quotes from Nippon Ichi president Sohei Niikawa, who stated ,“We thought about going multi-platform with PlayStation 3, but doing so would’ve made the PS3 the standard. Since we’re making it, I want to be able to offer something that could only be done with the PlayStation 4.”

Another quote from Niikawa says: “The number of characters that can be displayed at once has vastly grown. On the PlayStation 3 it was limited to 10 characters shown in high definition, but the PlayStation 4 can display 100 characters.”.

A product code for a trial version of the game will be included in the September 25 issue of Dengeki PlayStation magazine.


Disgaea 5 is expected to release in Japan sometime in Spring 2015 for PlayStation 4.
