NIS CEO: Disgaea 5 Won’t Bankrupt Us

We reported a story earlier that painted a pretty bleak picture for the Disgaea franchise and its company Nippon Ichi Software. Turns out the earlier comments made by president Sohei Niikawa were taken out of context and meant to be in jest. It’s another case of humor getting lost in translation.

We spoke with NIS today, who explained the entire situation. What Sohei really meant to say was:

“If Disgaea 5 does not sell as planned, I, as the producer, might need to leave the Japanese gaming industry. (LOL)”
He further comments on the misunderstanding, while also clarifying his true stance regarding Disgaea 5:

“This comment was simply self-deprecating humor and in no way did it mean or imply that Nippon Ichi Software as a company is going bankrupt or is in financial difficulties. I was merely trying to use humor in order to get the point across that we are committed to selling 150,000 copies of Disgaea 5.”
So looks like all is well in the world of niche Japanese RPGs.

Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance erscheint im Herbst im Westen

Das PS4-exklusive Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance wurde bislang nur für Japan angekündigt, aber nun wurde bestätigt, dass NIS America das Spiel im Herbst 2015 im Westen veröffentlichen wird und damit wohl nicht nur in den USA, sondern auch Europa.

Sage

An infinitely wise and all-powerful being, the more towards a Sage can round up in one attack, the harder it hits, thanks to its special ability, “Space Blaster,” which buffs its attack power by 10% per target. It predominantly uses bows and staffs as its weapon of choice.

Wrestler

Wrestlers are proud warriors who are always in search of the next great opponent and can minimize their fatigue holding their waists in place as they throw. Their weapons of choice are their fists, as well as their axes, and their special ability, “Throwdown,” lets them use a throw for free provided they don’t move from their current position.

Hare

Hares are peace-loving creatures that attack best from above. When invoked in Magichanges, they become swords. If they’re up on a higher elevation than their target when attacking, their special ability “Upper Hand” comes into play, giving their damage a 30% boost.

Dragon Pair

As their dual-headed appearance might suggest, Dragon Pairs have a commanding presence. The less they have to move, the better its heads can work in tandem to pull off powerful strikes. If they’re used for a Magichange, they also become a sword. Its special ability, “Twin Head,” means that it attacks twice in one turn if it doesn’t move.

Rider

Riders are the pride and joy of many a demon, their strong armor highly resistant to physical attacks, as demonstrated by their special ability “Immortal Body,” which lowers the damage of such attacks by 50%. They become spears during Magichanges.

PS4 Exclusive JRPG Disgaea 5 Gets New Trailer Introducing the Sexy Seraphine

Nippon Ichi Software just released a new trailer of the upcoming PS4 JRPG Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance, which will hit the Japanese shelves on March 26th and will launch in the west this fall.
The trailer introduces one of the main characters, Seraphine, the sexy demon princess running away from home to escape a political marriage she never agreed on.
We also get to see the two pre-order bonuses for the Japanese PSN version of the game (pre-orders in Japan have been made available today), a bunny girl costume for Seraphine and a weapon set. Considering the way she usually dresses, I guess the bunny outfit really doesn’t come as a surprise.

Cook Curry In Disgaea 5 To Boost Your Stats Before Battle

Usalia, a girl from the Rabbit Rabbit Netherworld riding a yellow Prinny, loves curry. She loves it so much you can cook curry before a battle begins in Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance. Players create curry by picking ingredients like… bombs? That’s a spicy curry! After you mix all of the ingredients together you’ll see what boost you get, but be careful some curries can poison you.



Disgaea 5 also has a collaboration with Japanese curry chain Go! Go! Curry!

Disgaea 5 also has a Demon Research Team where you can send units out to explore other Netherworlds and discover new demons. You might even discover a rare demon on an expedition and if you defeat it you could get rare items.


Disgaea 5 brings back the Dark Assembly as the Demon Strategy Meeting. Just like in previous Disgaea games you can make proposals to enhance your base, stock shops with higher quality items, reincarnate units, assign subclasses, and change unit colors. If you can’t persuade other demons you can bribe them or take over the meeting by force.

Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance comes in Japan on March 26 for PlayStation 4. A Western release is slated for this fall.

Curry plays a big role in Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance. You can cook curry before a battle starts to buff characters and nobody loves curry more than Usalia. Usalia rides a yellow Prinny with her in battle, but the two characters are just one unit. This short trailer gives us a look at an Extreme Kick combo… and a transformation at the end.

We expect Japanese video game trailers to be weird, but we’re always shocked when they push the boundaries of what exactly that word means. Nippon Ichi have today released a trailer where an arcade game called “Punch Man II” is first hit by a man in a gi. He does well, packing 75kg of force, but it’s simply not enough to do any real damage to the in-game karate master.

An older Japanese man then decides to have a go at it by lifting up a giant wrecking ball with a crane and slamming it into the arcade cabinet, completely obliterating it with a whopping 6.26 million kg of roce.

Apparently, this is the gravity of the action Disgaea 5 brings to the table.

It seriously must be seen to be believed, so check it out below

Neue Gameplay Infos

Firstly, Innocents can now grow by sending them off to what’s known as the “Innocent Farm.” Much like similar systems such as the Pokemon series’ Daycare, Innocents that are at the Innocent Farm will grow stronger as players go off and engage in fights. Additionally, depositing two or more Innocents can result in another one being spawned on occasion. Innocents born under such circumstances are special in that their overall growth potential is greater than standard ones, making them especially ideal candidates to become strong over time. Farm capabilities can also be upgraded by bolstering the Innocent Caretaker Squad; such upgrades include additional room to deposit more Innocents, increased overall growth rates, etc.

Also new to the game is the Refinery, which is a facility where rare items can be forged. These items can include consumables, as well as items that can be used in the War Room (Disgaea 5‘s incarnation of the series mainstay Dark Assembly) and in Item Worlds. Essentially, after picking an item from the list, it’ll be forged after going into battle a certain number of times. Items can be forged multiple times over the course of the game, should players come upon something that they find particularly useful.

Beyond that, players can now customize the placement of NPCs and facilities in their headquarters, which is known in-game as the “Mini-Netherworld.” Exterior portions of the Mini-Netherworld can also be customized with a variety of parts, with players able to save multiple loadouts and put them on a favorites list for easy access. This exterior customization comes into play in that the Mini-Netherworld can be summoned into battles, imposing special effects across the entirety of the map such as reduced accuracy and bolstered fire resistance. Mini-Netherworlds can also be uploaded and shared online, appearing in other players’ games as part of things like Item Worlds and Research Teams.

In terms of additional online functionality beyond that, Disgaea 5 also takes advantage of streaming functionality. Earned experience points, for instance, can increase depending on the number of viewers a given stream has, where high comment numbers can yield extra items. Players can also gift items to one another, which will appear in their headquarters as treasure chests. Records of each players’ gameplay stats are additionally viewable, providing insight into how different people play the game. Finally, players can also send custom news bulletins that others can read in their own feeds.

Wie Chara World in Disgaea 5 funktioniert

In addition to simply leveling up your characters in Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance, there’s an extra mini-game you can play to boost them up stats at a time. Nippon Ichi’s latest video shows us exactly how it works.

The video starts out with the tiny Overlord Zeroken telling Killia that he wants to become stronger, and asks how exactly he can do that. The protagonist then recommends the “Character World” feature for that.

To it simply, the Character World is basically a world that takes place deep inside a character’s heart. By doing different actions, you can unlock potential powers that are dormant within the character.

The world looks like a traditional Japanese Sugoroku-like board game, and it also shares similar rules. You start out by rolling a dice, and your character will advance according to the number you roll, and there will be various events depending on where you land.

Zeroken gives it a roll at the 1:28 mark, and he’s shown landing on a square that givces him a Res +3 stat. This is the basic idea of how you’ll strengthen your characters; however, there are squares with negative effects, so you’ll want to be careful

Upon reaching the goal, you’ll be rewarded with numerous different stats to choose from, as shown in the above image. So even if you don’t get the stats you want in the Character World, clearing it will guarantee you a choice of the stat you’ve been meaning to raise.
