GTA IV: Sam Houser im Interview
1UP führte ein Interview mit Sam Houser von Rockstar. Dieser bestätigte, dass es doch tatsächlich Unterschiede (wenn auch nur kleine) hinsichtlich der Optik in GTAIV zwischen der PS3 und XBox360-Version gibt. Abgesehen von den optischen Unterschieden sind technisch gesehen beide Versionen gleich!
“Jede Konsole“, so Houser, “habe ihren eigenen Look“. Die PS2-Version hat insgesamt eine wärme Atmosphäre mit “etwas mehr Sanftheit, ohne Unklarheiten“. Im Gegensatz dazu sieht die XBox360-Version etwas nüchterner aus.
I like the way the PS3 renders. There’s a certain kind of softness without being blurry - some warmth to it - and then there’s a certain more clinical element to how the 360 looks.
Ein weiteres Problem für zukünftige Entwicklungen ist aber die Kapazität einer DVD. Und dies wird ein Problem für kommende Xbox-Entwicklungen, da die Spiele im Umfang zunehmen werden. Man muss die Daten stärker komprimieren um sie auf eine DVD zu kriegen, daraus entstehen längere Ladezeiten:
One of the problems with the 360, and it affects games like Grand Theft Auto if you think about how much content we put in the actual machine, is the fact that they don’t have a significantly larger storage medium than the previous systems. It’s a slightly bigger DVD disc. And with a small disc, stuff’s compressed, so it takes longer to load, so to cut down on-oh. You’re not done.
Laut Houser sind sie an die Grenzen der DVD-Kapazität angelangt:
I think that the 360 is going to have to get ’round this issue we’re talking about. I can think of various ways they can do it. Hopefully, they’re going to adopt one of those in the next year or so, because it’s going to become more of an issue. If we’re filling up the disc right now, where are we going?
