Game Guide:
Hardware: Rivals Beta is an online multiplayer vehicle combat game. The Beta includes 3 maps and 6 game modes which allow you to experience the heart of the game – Driving and Combat!

Vehicles
There are two vehicle classes, Fast Action Vehicles (F.A.Vs) and Tanks:

  • (F.A.Vs) are fast and nimble but can’t take a lot of damage.

  • Tanks are heavier and slower but can take more hits.

Primary Weapons
Each vehicle is equipped with a primary weapon that never runs out of ammo. Use it to finish off or soften up your opponent.

  • Tanks: Fire a tank shell that packs quite a punch but requires more accuracy per shot.
  • F. A.Vs: Fire a turret mounted heavy machine gun that has a wide field of fire.

Secondary Weapons
You can find secondary weapon pickups located around the maps. These weapon pickups are much more powerful than your primary weapons but are in short supply.
-Drive over a secondary weapon pick up to collect it and fire the weapon with [L1]
-Picking up a weapon of the same type you already have equipped will increase the ammo count.
-Picking up a different weapon will replace the previously equipped weapon.

Non Guided Weapons
Simply point your turret towards your target and press fire [L1].

  • Rockets: Fire a salvo of rockets in a spread ahead of you, particularly effective at close range.
  • Rail Gun: A very powerful, very fast long range weapon that can take out most targets in one hit. Tricky to aim and most effective against non-moving targets.
  • Bombs: Once fired, bombs will bounce around and detonate on impact with a vehicle. If the bomb comes to rest without hitting a vehicle it will turn into a proximity mine for a short time.
  • Laser: An incredibly powerful beam of destruction. It is effective at short range and will destroy anything it touches. Sweep it across multiple enemies in close proximity for maximum effect.

Guided Weapons
These weapons will guide themselves to the target once you have a lock-on.
To achieve a lock you need to aim at your opponent and wait until a solid red square has formed around your target.
At this point the weapon is locked on and the weapon will guide itself to the target once fired. [L1]
You can switch targets by pressing [TRIANGLE]

  • Light Missile: A rapid fire, fast missile that delivers a medium payload.
  • Heavy Missile: A slower, more direct missile that delivers a large amount of damage.
  • Plasma: Fires a salvo of small guided projectiles that swarm towards the target. Is less effective in enclosed spaces due to its wide firing spread.
  • Weapon EMP: This weapon fires a pulse on impact that disables the target’s Weapons Systems making your target unable to fire for a short period of time.
  • Drive EMP: This weapon fires a pulse on impact that disables the target’s Engine Systems making your target unable to move for a short period of time.

Advanced Turret Control
To better keep your sights on the target you can rotate your turret with the right analogue stick.
If need to quickly get your turret facing forward again press the right analogue stick [R3]

Health and Armour
You will also be able to find health and armour pickups around the maps.

  • Health: Repairs your vehicle systems.
  • Armour: Reduces the amount of damage you take from any incoming fire.

Level Special Weapons
Each level has a special weapon that can be activated by any player. They are in very limited supply and will only occasionally be available throughout a match.
The player activating the special weapon will be credited for any opponents destroyed as long as they also survive.

  • Blister Lake “Airstrike”: An airstrike is called in and the only way to survive will be to get inside the bunker underneath the main hangar.
  • The Lost Temple “Fire of The Ancients”: Triggers a deadly burst of energy that destroys anyone who is not inside the central pyramid.
  • Quarry “System Purge”: Corrosive dust will envelop your vehicle if you don’t reach higher ground.

Controls

There are alternative control setups available in the options menu.

Playing with Friends
If you want to play with your friends there two options:

  • If there is free space in your game you can invite them directly via the in-game friends menu. Just press TRIANGLE on the front end or options then TRIANGLE in-game
  • You can also set up a PSN party and boot into the game. When one of your party members joins a game from the Play Game menu the other members of the party will also be asked if they wish to join. All members that accept the invite will be placed together in the same game.

Challenges
There are three challenges available on each map, which provide something a little different to do while you are playing. For example, how fast can you drive through the underground bunker on Blister Lake or how far can you jump over the temple on The Lost Temple.

You can set a score for a challenge at any time during a match. At the end of a match, if you beat a friend’s score you may be asked if you would like to challenge them to see if they can do better!

You can find more information on the available challenges from the Challenges section of the Main Menu.

Bounties
At the start of the match you may get given a rival as a bounty target. If you take them out you will earn some bonus experience points but be quick, you have to get them before they get you.

Gameplay Tips

  • Pickup control is crucial, learn where and when your favourite weapons will spawn.
  • Listen out for the alert sound that indicates a guided missile is incoming. When you hear it head for cover!
  • Tanks can push F.A.Vs around at close quarters.
  • Keep the pressure on with your Primary weapon.
  • If your engine is disabled you can always use your turret controls to keep your target in the line of fire.
  • You can cycle through targets by pressing [TRIANGLE]
  • Click [R3] to get your turret facing forward again.

Beta läuft noch.
Vom Mittwoch
Hello!

We have added Team Play and Custom Match to the play list.

Team Play and Attrition are three round events so you will often end up playing the following round with the same players and you may be given one of your rivals as a Bounty Target!

Custom Match will currently replace Quick Match and will allow you to specify the map and game mode so you can choose exactly what match you want to play.

See you on the battlefield!

Luckily the developers of Hardware: Rivals, have given us the opportunity to ask them some of our burning questions!

So share your questions in the comments below! We will gather them all and share them with the developers!

Deadline Sunday 25th October!

Don't forget to check back for the answers in the near future!

And launches the same day as PS+ games come out, I wonder!
Hatte auch schon den Gedanken ob's nicht ein PS+ Titel wird, jetzt paßt sogar das Datum ~hmm~

Endlich da:

Hardware: Rivals - Q&A, your questions answered!

Q: Did you play the first game (HOA) back in 2002 yourselves too? If so, what brought you to bring it back? Was it fun to build it up from scratch again with all the memories from back in the day? - @xxquatroxx1979
A: Yes, not only did a few members of the Rivals dev team play the original title, but some of us also worked on it too. It was awesome to bring it back and even though we have remained pretty true to the original, it was great to be able to give it a fresh coat of paint and get some new features into the game. We weren’t able to do this the first time around.

Q: From which games did you get your inspiration for both HW Rivals and HW Online Arena? - @Choco_ChipChip
A: Hardware: Online Arena was built on the engine of an earlier game called Dropship. Although Dropship was primarily a flight combat game, it included a few driving sections that we really wanted to push a lot further. Around the same time we were playing a lot of online multiplayer PC games during our lunch breaks and when we heard the PlayStation 2 network adapter was coming we jumped at the chance to make a multiplayer driving combat game for PS2!

Q: 2. Will all HOA maps return? - @deanos
A: Well, I’m pleased to say we will be including the original Arctic map! This time renamed to Outpost 92. The overall footprint of the map has remained roughly the same but we have set it at night and changed the look of many of the buildings to give each area more visual identity. We’re also looking to include a brand new level special!

As for the Ruins level in HOA, it largely used a lot of the same architecture and style as the Lost Temple (Mayan) level and we really want each map to look and feel as unique as possible. As such, we are working on some brand new maps that we can’t wait to get finished and into the mix.

Q: Will there be more vehicles that are significantly different from the 2 that are available at the moment? - @Makes87
A: Yes, there will be more vehicles coming. Soon after launch, we will be adding the Scarab FAV and Barbarian Tank from the original game and while they are not quite finished yet, they are already looking awesome! We will also add extra customisation options on a regular basis for all of the vehicles, allowing you to enter battle in your own unique style.

In gameplay terms, there are a number of upgrades and perks that allow players to customise the strengths and characteristics of their chosen vehicle. This allows for variations in play style while keeping gameplay balanced.

Q: Will the game have more weapon options in the future? - @Mayoubaz2
A: We’ll continue to consider new weapon options for the future. One thing we are looking at for launch is changing the Plasma into a Damage Over Time weapon. This makes the weapon more distinctive from the other lock on weapons and gives players more gameplay options. It also provides more time to react after getting hit. For example, once a player is hit by Plasma, they need to decide whether to break off combat and find some health or tough it out and take down their attacker.

Q: Will it be possible in the future to shoot a jeep with a tank? Cause this was not working in the beta :/ -Atchoum78
A: Yes, it is possible to shoot an FAV with a tank, but their agility can make them tough to hit, especially when up close. You can always try pushing them around though!

Q: Will the Ranking system be the same as the original (HOA)? - @GremlinNL
A: We are actually looking to implement a feature that builds significantly on the HOA ranking system, which will be included as a post-launch feature update. We will hopefully have more details we can share with you soon!

Q: Will there be a possibility to make a clan and battle other clans? - @dendaudk
A: You will be able to create private matches and arrange clan battles, but there is no full integration of a clan system in the game yet. It is something that we are very keen to include as we really want to support Hardware clans and communities and give them plenty of opportunities to play and compete against each other.

Q: Any chance of bringing back "king of the hill" from the original hardware online arena? - @xxquatroxx1979
A: Wow that takes me back. Yeah, King of the Hill was great fun and is on a long list of game modes we want to try. We will be adding new game modes after launch so it may see a return in the future. We are currently working on a new Elimination game mode which introduces “last man standing” type gameplay. It’s a team game played in short 2 to 3 minute rounds and is the best of 5 rounds. If you are destroyed, you won’t respawn until the next round but can watch your teammates take the battle on. Once a team eliminates all players on the opposing side they win the round and score a point.

Q: Will there be a theatre/replay mode? - @skells22
A: We really want to make the game as much to fun to watch as it is to play, so we are looking into the possibility of this for a future update. We have added more dynamic cameras for spectating in Elimination mode and we will continue to work on improvements in that area.

Q: When will the game be available? – @MrYasston93
A:January 5th, 2016. Mark your calendars!

Q: Will the game be digital on PlayStation store or physical disk? - @MegaMax74
A: Hardware: Rivals will be a digital-only title.

Q: Will there be DLC / Map Packs? Will it be free DLC or paid expansions? – @Gamerhai
A: We have a bunch of free content coming after launch, including new maps and game modes.

Q: Will the ranks/stats from the beta be reset or can we keep them? – @Spitfire
A: All of the data from Beta will reset, but it shouldn’t take too long to get back up to speed!

Q: Can we expect Easter Eggs, such as being able to jump off the map like HOA? - @deanos
A: I know the Art team likes to leave a few surprises in the levels, so if you look carefully you may find something out there. As for getting out of the maps, let’s just say that wasn’t exactly a planned Easter Egg in the original but I do remember it being fun!

Spielt hier niemand? Hat euch schon die Beta abgeschreckt? :ugly:

Ich hätte gerne mehr Statistiken im Spiel. Vieles (z.B. alles zu den Waffen) sieht man nur (zufällig) auf den Ladebildschirmen.
