Game Guide:
Hardware: Rivals Beta is an online multiplayer vehicle combat game. The Beta includes 3 maps and 6 game modes which allow you to experience the heart of the game – Driving and Combat!
Vehicles
There are two vehicle classes, Fast Action Vehicles (F.A.Vs) and Tanks:
Primary Weapons
Each vehicle is equipped with a primary weapon that never runs out of ammo. Use it to finish off or soften up your opponent.
Secondary Weapons
You can find secondary weapon pickups located around the maps. These weapon pickups are much more powerful than your primary weapons but are in short supply.
-Drive over a secondary weapon pick up to collect it and fire the weapon with [L1]
-Picking up a weapon of the same type you already have equipped will increase the ammo count.
-Picking up a different weapon will replace the previously equipped weapon.
Non Guided Weapons
Simply point your turret towards your target and press fire [L1].
Guided Weapons
These weapons will guide themselves to the target once you have a lock-on.
To achieve a lock you need to aim at your opponent and wait until a solid red square has formed around your target.
At this point the weapon is locked on and the weapon will guide itself to the target once fired. [L1]
You can switch targets by pressing [TRIANGLE]
Advanced Turret Control
To better keep your sights on the target you can rotate your turret with the right analogue stick.
If need to quickly get your turret facing forward again press the right analogue stick [R3]
Health and Armour
You will also be able to find health and armour pickups around the maps.
Level Special Weapons
Each level has a special weapon that can be activated by any player. They are in very limited supply and will only occasionally be available throughout a match.
The player activating the special weapon will be credited for any opponents destroyed as long as they also survive.
Controls
There are alternative control setups available in the options menu.
Playing with Friends
If you want to play with your friends there two options:
Challenges
There are three challenges available on each map, which provide something a little different to do while you are playing. For example, how fast can you drive through the underground bunker on Blister Lake or how far can you jump over the temple on The Lost Temple.
You can set a score for a challenge at any time during a match. At the end of a match, if you beat a friend’s score you may be asked if you would like to challenge them to see if they can do better!
You can find more information on the available challenges from the Challenges section of the Main Menu.
Bounties
At the start of the match you may get given a rival as a bounty target. If you take them out you will earn some bonus experience points but be quick, you have to get them before they get you.
Gameplay Tips
Vehicles
There are two vehicle classes, Fast Action Vehicles (F.A.Vs) and Tanks:
- (F.A.Vs) are fast and nimble but can’t take a lot of damage.
- Tanks are heavier and slower but can take more hits.
Primary Weapons
Each vehicle is equipped with a primary weapon that never runs out of ammo. Use it to finish off or soften up your opponent.
- Tanks: Fire a tank shell that packs quite a punch but requires more accuracy per shot.
- F. A.Vs: Fire a turret mounted heavy machine gun that has a wide field of fire.
- Rockets: Fire a salvo of rockets in a spread ahead of you, particularly effective at close range.
- Rail Gun: A very powerful, very fast long range weapon that can take out most targets in one hit. Tricky to aim and most effective against non-moving targets.
- Bombs: Once fired, bombs will bounce around and detonate on impact with a vehicle. If the bomb comes to rest without hitting a vehicle it will turn into a proximity mine for a short time.
- Laser: An incredibly powerful beam of destruction. It is effective at short range and will destroy anything it touches. Sweep it across multiple enemies in close proximity for maximum effect.
- Light Missile: A rapid fire, fast missile that delivers a medium payload.
- Heavy Missile: A slower, more direct missile that delivers a large amount of damage.
- Plasma: Fires a salvo of small guided projectiles that swarm towards the target. Is less effective in enclosed spaces due to its wide firing spread.
- Weapon EMP: This weapon fires a pulse on impact that disables the target’s Weapons Systems making your target unable to fire for a short period of time.
- Drive EMP: This weapon fires a pulse on impact that disables the target’s Engine Systems making your target unable to move for a short period of time.
Advanced Turret Control
To better keep your sights on the target you can rotate your turret with the right analogue stick.
If need to quickly get your turret facing forward again press the right analogue stick [R3]
Health and Armour
You will also be able to find health and armour pickups around the maps.
- Health: Repairs your vehicle systems.
- Armour: Reduces the amount of damage you take from any incoming fire.
Level Special Weapons
Each level has a special weapon that can be activated by any player. They are in very limited supply and will only occasionally be available throughout a match.
The player activating the special weapon will be credited for any opponents destroyed as long as they also survive.
- Blister Lake “Airstrike”: An airstrike is called in and the only way to survive will be to get inside the bunker underneath the main hangar.
- The Lost Temple “Fire of The Ancients”: Triggers a deadly burst of energy that destroys anyone who is not inside the central pyramid.
- Quarry “System Purge”: Corrosive dust will envelop your vehicle if you don’t reach higher ground.
Controls
There are alternative control setups available in the options menu.
Playing with Friends

Challenges
There are three challenges available on each map, which provide something a little different to do while you are playing. For example, how fast can you drive through the underground bunker on Blister Lake or how far can you jump over the temple on The Lost Temple.
