So. Habe jetzt alle restlichen Komponenten bestellt:
- LG GH20NS10 (DVD/RW-Laufwerk)
- be quiet!
)
Well if you already have a 8800 series card you probably won't gain anything - for my part I skipped the 8xxx series completely (upgraded from a gf7900gs) and from there it's one hell of an upgrade. The card also offers pretty much the best performance/price ratio of any cards out there atm.
I've played Gears of War on windows and the card is capable of running that at 1680x1050 with all settings maxed at very good framerates. For Crysis I had to lower resolution a bit in certain parts of the game, but overall you get framerates of around 30-40 fps with everything on high (+ some tweaks that make it look like very high) at 1280x720 resolution - my old gf7900gs basically went down to 10-15fps as soon as I switched to high quality settings no matter the resolution. ETQW runs wth everything maxed at a steady 60fps at 1680x1050 under linux (well the demo, haven't got the full game), even switching on 4x AA hardly has a peformance impact (maybe 10fps at most).
The card is also very quiet and doesn't produce as much heat as the 88xx cards - mine runs at around 45c idle and 64c under full load - compared to the 90c that a 8800gt reportedly hits under full load. Fan runs at the lowest setting while idle and even under full load it hardly spins up (automatic fan control works flawlessly under linux). Overall noise seems to be on par with a Zalman VF900 cooler at minimum setting (had that on the gf7900gs) and that's one hell of a quiet cooler to begin with.
So overall you basically get all the benefits of the 8800 cards for less money - but as I said if you already have a 8800 card it's not worth the upgrade as you won't really gain anything, from what I hear it's still a great upgrade from any of the 8600 series cards though.
