Last week, Sony released Soul Sacrifice—a multiplayer PlayStation Vita game inspired by the likes of Monster Hunter and other similar titles—in Japan. The game sold 114,446 copies in its first week on store shelves.

In their weekly software and hardware sales report, sales tracker Media Create share that Soul Sacrifice sold through 76% of its initial shipment. This includes both the regular edition as well as the dual packs that included two copies of the game.

This makes Soul Sacrifice the third PlayStation Vita game to sell over 100,000 copies in its first week, the other two being Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f and Persona 4: Golden.

Soul Sacrifice’s Massive April Update Adds New Monsters And An Isle To Explore

The forbidden technique, known as Berserk, will also be implemented in Soul Sacrifice. Berserk is a powerful and useful ability that forms a tornado around your character that sucks up enemies and attacks them at the same time. However, it will require a sacrifice of the character’s knowledge, as the player will lose sense of the magic they have set. In other words, you won’t be able to tell which button does which magic after using Berserk.

In addition to the in-game features, the major update will include various game play options. Previously, Soul Sacrifice could only be played multiplayer via WI-FI. This update will include an Adhoc multiplayer option, allowing you to play wirelessly.

There’s also a new social media feature that lets you post how many monsters you’ve sacrificed and saved, once a day on Twitter and Facebook. Doing so will grant you an item called “Libram’s Tear”, which can be used to reduce the level of either life-force or magic on your character.

Another additional feature that allows you to get more Libram’s Tears is in the newly added AR play card mini-game, featuring collectable spirits that can be traded for the tears.

A few fixes and options have also been implemented:

You can now dodge while aiming a long-ranged spell.
Additional option menu choices.
Camera speed is now adjustable.
Using spells that require you to hold buttons for a longer period of time doesn’t restrict you to using the right stick, as you can use the directional pad too.
You can now collect Libram’s Tears during Multiplayer Mode, without having to leave the game.
The X and R buttons are now interchangeable in Key Config.

In addition to the Behemoth and Dullahan, Soul Sacrifice will have several more monsters in the near future, through free updates. Here’s a look at the silhouettes of some of the upcoming downloadable monsters:

Soul Sacrifice is slated for release on April 30th in North America and May 1st in Europe.

~sweetjesus~

It's a boss hunting game.
The first few levels will have you fighting small enemies, but most of them will involve you and a friend or two trying to take down a large monster in an enclosed arena (with smaller monsters also joining in the fight). You are rewarded with spells for completing missions and fulfilling certain objectives (spells are your weapons and items in this game).

The combat is fairly fast-paced and fluid. Much more so then MH.
The X button allows you to sprint, roll, and interact with things.
The L button allows you to lock on to monsters.
R swaps between your two spell loadouts (see below).

You can assign three spells of your choice to the square, triangle and circle buttons before missions. During combat, all you do to activate the spell is press the assigned button.
The effect of spells vary:
-Some activate immediately when you press the button.
-Some can be charged until you release the button for an amplified effect.
-Some transform you/arm you with a weapon.
-Some bestow a certain effect upon your for a limited time, like invincible rolls.
All spells have limited usage and eventually will become unusable. You can restore them through certain means, but I don't understand enough Japanese to give any specifics.

Once you kill a monster, you are given two choices to level yourself up:
-Press and hold L to Save a monster, boosting your Defense and Healing ability.
-Press and hold R to Sacrifice a monster, boosting your Attack.
You can focus on either or maintain a sort of balance between the two types of EXP.

There's more to it, but that's stuff you can look up on your own if the above interests you.
