PlayStation Vita Street Fighter x Tekken Due in Fall with 12 New Characters

The PlayStation Vita version of Street Fighter x Tekken won't make it out alongside the PS3 and Xbox 360 version on March 8. Capcom said today that Vita owners will have to wait until Fall.

But Vita owners can look forward to some big bonuses. The Vita version will have twelve additional characters. The Street Fighter cast will be updated with Elena, Guy, Cody, Sakura, Dudley and Blanka. The Tekken side will be updated with Alisa, Christie, Jack, Bryan, Lars and Lei.

Unfortunate, Capcom did not share screens of the new cast members today.

Amazon has updated their Vita Street Fighter X Tekken release date to October 2, 2012 today, roughly 5 months from now.

This is a fairly significant date since the 12 DLC characters will more than likely be opened up for console download after the Vita version has been released. The Amazon listing also confirms that purchasing DLC on the Vita will unlock DLC for the PS3 version of Street Fighter X Tekken along with the cross platform play between Vita and PS3.

While Amazon has used placeholder dates for games before, they usually aren't too far off the mark when it comes to release dates.

Regarding Street Fighter x Tekken:

- Several testers have been fired over the Rolento knife glitch getting through testing.
- The PC patch which was supposed to update the game to 1.04 was delayed because of the Rolento knife glitch. Capcom didn’t want to spend the money on older patches for PC, so they were waiting for the newest edition, 1.04 to be out on consoles, and then release the PC update about a week later, but due to the glitch’s discovery, it was halted. PC will be receiving the update to 1.05 within a week after the console update.
- Capcom is aware that the PC version has had the Swap costumes unlocked by a hack, as well as the Alternate costumes being backported from the 360 version, but I do not know if they are currently aware that those have been fully enabled in the PC version as well without needing to switch files around. At any rate, the 1.05 patch will disable, at the very least, the Swap costume hack, and anyone found using it will be reported to Microsoft for a potential account ban. Related, this costume unlocker tool also works with SSF4AE, and users of it in that game will be receiving the same punishment.
- Capcom is deeply regretting their DLC decisions with SFxT, but are bound by a contract to both Sony and Microsoft and have very little wiggle room to change things. The 12 DLC characters will NOT be available under any circumstances until the Vita version comes out, however, previously there was going to be a 1 month delay before 360 and PC users were to get the DLC characters (plus Mega Man and Pac Man), but this has since been done away with. All platforms will get the 12 DLC characters on the Vita’s launch day.
- Mega Man and Pac Man will be available on 360 and PC earlier than intended, sometime in July.
- Capcom is adding roughly 20 new colors that were NOT on the disc and will be downloadable when the Vita version launches. By that time, all the colors existing on the disc will be released as well. Colors will continue to be free.
- As a sort of surprise/apology, Capcom is developing two completely new characters that will also be released with the Vita version launch, for all platforms, at no additional cost beyond the cost for the main DLC download. These characters are Evil Ryu and Devil (Kazuya).
- Several balancing changes will be done before the Vita launch. You’ll especially see major changes in the DLC characters, because even though they were “completed”, they were not properly balanced and some of their moves will have very different properties. Bryan and Lars especially have major overhauls.
- Gems will continue to be released, both paid and free, however some gems that were intended to be paid previously will instead be released for free. This of course does not apply to all of the gems.
- Even though a “No Gems” mode has been heavily requested, it is unlikely that there will be such a mode added to the game. This is because, as everyone suspects, Gems exist to make money for Capcom, and even though some of the actual development team wants to side with the fans on this one, the higher ups keep refusing.
- Pandora is getting buffed for the Vita release. It will last very slightly longer and will come with a major strength boost, as well as the free meter that it already grants.
- The timer is getting fixed for the Vita release. It will take two seconds to pass 1 in-game second, so basically match times are doubled.
- The Alternate costumes (the second DLC costume set) will be available when the Vita version launches.
- There was going to be a third set of DLC costumes, dubbed “Alternate 2″, but all development on them has been canceled due to poor sales of the existing DLC costumes and general distaste many people have had with the DLC in general. They wouldn’t have come out until sometime in 2013.
- And, if it wasn’t totally clear yet, there will be no further content developed for Street Fighter x Tekken after the Vita release. The only things that will be released after that will be more of the on-disc DLC Gems. Of course, balance patches may occur, but nothing beyond that.
- No, there will not be a Wii U version.

Street Fighter X Tekken Vita Preview – Includes New “Battle Tap” Controls

Coming Fall of 2012, Street Fighter X Tekken for the PlayStation Vita is looking like the definitive version of the game. SF X Tekken on the Vita expands on the console versions while adding a host of extra modes, characters, levels, unlockable content, and even it’s own unique touch-screen control support.

With SF X Tekken, Street Fighter and Tekken fans can now take their fight on the go. Players have the option of either playing the competitive and co-op fighter locally or with other players using 3G or Wi-Fi.

Find out more about Street Fighter X Tekken (Vita) after the break.

New additions Cody, Jack, and more join the 43 other SF X Tekken characters.

Hell, players can choose from large pool of characters from the storied Tekken and Street Fighter franchises. That’s more characters than most fighting games on console and on handhelds.

As we’ve reported before, Street Fighter X Tekken (Vita) will ship with 55 playable characters from the get go. That’s the 43 original characters from the PS3 version along with 12 brand-new ones including Blanka, Guy, Bryan Fury, Lei Wulong, and many more. Also, because this is on a PlayStation handheld, the Vita version will also feature Infamous hero Cole MacGrath, the iconic Pac-Man, Mega Man, as well as Japanese Capcom characters/Mascots Toro and Kuro.

*Side Note* Capcom has mentioned that Players who already own the PS3 version and chooses to pick up the Vita version as well will receive the additional 12 characters as free DLC.

Everything you loved about the console version, now with extra awesome.

In addition to that, PS3 players can battle it out with Vita players using the much-touted Cross-Platform game mode. SF X Tekken on the Vita uses the same game engine and code so getting into a match with a PS3 player is just a matter of choice. We’ll see how this feature turns out once the game releases.

Oh and players need not fret if they’ve already purchased DLC and for their PS3 version of SF X Tekken as the Vita version allows for Data Sharing with the PS3. That means all the DLC’s players purchased on the PS3 version can be used on the Vita version. Save files and customized characters can also be transferred back and forth between the two systems, perfect for those long business trips away from the PS3.

On the control side, it’s pretty much identical between the Vita and PS3 versions, except that the Vita also features a fully customizable touch-screen control scheme called “Battle Tap.” Basically Battle Tap allows players to input touch-screen specific parts of their 5″ OLED screen and program them to do specific moves at the touch of the button.

Check out the included video for a closer look at “Battle Tap” controls for Street Fighter X Tekken Vita:

While we’re on the subject of Vita-specific features, SF X Tekken on the Vita also makes use of the handheld’s camera and rear touch functionalities. As well, Capcom has said that they’ve got plans on further expanding player experience outside of the game using the Vita’s NEAR app.

Capcom announced today a final October 25 release date for the PlayStation Vita version of Street Fighter x Tekken.

Pricing is... a little complicated.

The game can be purchased in three forms.

On its own as a PSN download, you'll have to pay ¥3,400.

The PSN download bundled with the PS3 add-on character pack (which adds the Vita version's characters to the PS3 version) will cost ¥4,400.

The game's retail version comes bundled with the PS3 character pack by default and costs ¥4,990. The retail version also includes as a first print run bonus an arrange costume pack.
