Xillia (English) Voice Recording Complete!

Hello everyone, my name is Ted Tsung and I am the North American Producer for Tales of Xillia for NAMCO BANDAI Games America. I’m happy to announce that we recently completed our voice recording session for the game, an extremely important part of the localization process. It’s a huge milestone for us to pass and it means that Tales of Xillia is that much closer to its 2013 release.

Eight hours of voice recording across an eight week span, filled with late nights catching up on emails, proofing, and preparation for the following day. It’s a grueling process that’s both physically and mentally taxing. Despite this, it was a fantastic experience, thanks to the support from Cup of Tea, 8-4, and the voice actors. I might be looking through rose-tinted glasses, but you won’t find a better group of people.

It’s always impressive to see how well voice actors can improvise on the spot. They have very little interaction with each other. The most exposure they’ll get with one another is hearing a voice that may be played back for reference. Otherwise, they’re stuck in a booth alone, quickly scanning a script they’ve never seen before, dishing out multiple takes for us to grab. It’s a draining process that requires a lot of attention from all parties.

After it’s all said and done, I believe people will be satisfied with the voices we chose for each character. When localizing games like those in the Tales of franchise, there’s always added pressure since the Japanese version typically comes out first.

I’m very much aware that it can be very jarring to someone hearing the English voices when they’re used to hearing the Japanese voices. However, I think our English cast matches the original intention of their character’s persona.

For example, we went with a much deeper voice for Milla. We needed her to maintain a very powerful and authoritative demeanor, so we didn’t find it appropriate maintaining the same pitch as her Japanese voice.

Similarly, we pitched down Jude a little bit as well. He maintains the same adolescent qualities as the Japanese version, but we figured the North American audience would prefer a lower, stronger voice.

As long-winded as the recording was, it was a gratifying one, and I really owe it to all the people I worked with. Everyone has done an outstanding job, and I hope the fans enjoy it.

Hideo Baba talks Tales of Xillia 2 reception, series future

Two weeks after the launch of Tales of Xillia 2 in Japan, series producer Hideo Baba has taken to Famitsu.com to file a producer report.

Tales of Xillia 2 was officially announced in June this year at the Tales of Festival 2012. The game debuted almost half a year later on November 1.

“Many people said they were very moved by the story and ended up crying, many also seemed to be a bit concerned about their ‘choices,’ they recall making some corrupt ones,” said Baba on players’ experiences with the game. “I realize that everyone interprets the theme we wanted to convey in a variety of ways.”

He continued: “Regarding the battle system we’ve designed [in Tales of Xillia 2], it’s even more profound, refreshing, and easy to play. I’m very happy it seems to be well received.”

Baba has traveled a lot this year. From June, he toured Europe to promote Tales of Graces F, visiting countries such as England, Germany, Italy, Spain, and France. In France, he participated in the Japan Expo, where he announced Tales of Xillia for a western release. And in San Diego and New York, he became part of Comic-Con. After that, he went to Germany a second time, where he attended Animania. Because of these activities, Tales series sales in Germany increased in a big way. Fan communication is important, according to Baba.

In Japan, Baba toured all around to promote Tales of Xillia 2. He went to Sendai, Ibaraki, Tokyo (Ikebukuro and Akihabara), Chiba (Tokyo Game Show), Kanazawa, Nagoya, Osaka, Tokushima (Machi Asobi), Hiroshima, Kokura, and Fukuoka. Because some cities were first-time affairs for Tales-related events, Baba was worried whether or not people would show. But the turnout was pretty good. In Mie prefecture, at the Suzuka Circuit, Baba met with F1 driver Fernando Alonso, who uses an Asbel figurine (Tales of Graces F) as his lucky charm (he calls it Tomita).

Finally, Baba touched upon the future of the Tales Series.

“We have already begun working toward the next anniversary. How do we approach the 20th anniversary, what kind of theme and playing will we propose? It’s still in the planning stages at the moment, but I started thinking about it early on,” he said. “During this last half year, I’ve gone to many countries and regions, but when I’m in Tokyo, I was having meetings regarding the next title. Before we reach the 20th anniversary, we are starting Tales of Hearts R for the PlayStation Vita. I am thinking I want to release multiple titles, so please anticipate it.”

New Tales of Xillia Screenshots and Concept Art Look Really Pretty
http://www.godisageek.com/2013/01/tales-xillia-screenshots-concept-art-pretty/
Released in Japan in 2011, Tales of Xillia has been a long time coming for Western fans of the Tales of series. Since 1995, 14 million copies of the 25 game-strong series have been sold worldwide and to get European and North American fans hyped for the upcoming PS3 title, Namco Bandai has released some concept art and screenshots that look just as gorgeous as you’d imagine.
Since its 2011 release, the game has sold over 740,000 copies in Japan, making it the best selling title over there since 2002′s PlayStation 2 great, Tales of Destiny 2.
Sadly, the release date for European and North American PlayStation 3 owners still remains vague, but as soon as we hear something concrete, you’ll be the first to know.

According to an interview from 1UP during a Namco Bandai event last week, Tales of Xillia is set for a Summer 2013 release. While there's no official release announcement confirming this it sounds right. Additionally, according to Crunchyroll, NB is supposed to give another announcement on February 4th, which is possibly a trailer for Tales of Xillia. Additionally, from the articles that follow it seems the press were shown a trailer of the game which probably had the English voiceovers on them. Anyway, here are the compiled articles from various publications.
At Namco-Bandai's recent event to promote Tales of Xillia's Summer 2013 release, I hopped on a demo station and within seconds adapted to the latest refinement of the series' Linear Motion Battle System, which has been providing a refreshingly action-based alternative to turn-based RPG battles since 1996. Really, the greatest strength of the Tales franchise has always been its engaging and satisfying enemy encounters, and the brief time I spent with Xillia's showed me that Namco-Bandai wouldn't be breaking this trend anytime soon.
Namco Bandai also teased a "big announcement" for February 4! We'll be sure to bring you more details on these titles as they become available!

Next Tales of Game in development; 20th anniversary title planned

According to an interview session where people could ask Hideo Baba a question and he would raise yes or panels one question was asked: "Is work on the next Tales title already being done?" Unsurprisingly, Baba raised the Yes panel. It's pretty much a given that Baba moves from one project to the next fairly fast and with Tales of Xillia 2 being just released it's not surprising. In addition, Baba mentioned that he was currently planning the 20th anniversary title and hopes to change the Tales series in someway.
Ich weiß Tales of Xillia 1 kommt erst dieses Jahr in den Westen und Teil 2 ist noch TBA aber bald gibt es die ersten Infos zum nächsten "neuen" Tales of Game:ugly: (Tales of Festival in June now - June 1 and 2.)
Stellt sich die Frage PS3 oder ..... PS4~sweetjesus~

Nähere mich jetzt auch langsam dem Ende bei the Abyss auf dem 3DS.
Allein Graces F war schon besser wie FF13 und 13-2 zusammen xD
