Sony’s rather suggestive PS3 motion controller, uncharitably thought by many to be a shameless knock-off of the Wiimote and Project Natal, has been delayed.
Sony’s bosses put it thus:
“So as to ensure as broad a spectrum of customers are able to enjoy the controller, we have decided to delay release until autumn 2010 to ensure a broad variety of titles are available.”
This appears to be a coded admission that Sony has been lax in developing enough party games to support sales of the device.
Sony’s 2010 “killer lineup” for the controller is as follows (some without firm titles yet):
Ape Escape
“Jinki”
“Machi Suberi”
“Sing and Draw”
“Champions of Time”
“Motion Party”
“The Shoot”
“Tower”
Mr. Pain
Flowery
Hustler King
High Velocity Bowling
EyePet
A powerful lineup indeed.

:ugly:

Report: Sony Motion Controller to get 10 titles this yea

A Nikkei report has surfaced stating that Sony’s Motion Controller will have 10 games compatible with the new peripheral by the end of the year.

According to the report (via Andriasang), some of these titles include sports and pet raising games.

Sony announced last week that its motion device will be released in the fall instead of this spring.

Sources state that the device will be called Arc upon release, which prompted Sony to respond with a flat “no comment on rumors and speculation”.

Q-Games: “We don’t currently have anything for motion controls”
If you were hoping the next PixelJunk might take advantage of PS3’s wand controller – rumoured to be called Arc – it sounds as though you’re out of luck.

“We don’t currently have anything for motion controls,” PixelJunk Monsters and Racers director Rhod Broadbent told VG247, speaking in an interview published today.
“We’re just waiting for an idea to run with, that’s all.”
PixelJunk Shooter director Shouichi Tominaga added, however, that the idea of motion controls was personally inspiring.

“In my head, there are a bunch of ideas,” he said. “I like new technologies, so it’s of interest to me. We’ve got nothing to announce at this point, though.”
PR boss Duncan Flett said that staffers has tried Natal at TGS last year, and had found it “interesting”.

PS3’s motion controller was recently delayed to autumn 2010. It was originally planned for a March release.

Natal’s expected at the end of 2010.
Q-Games has no announced projects at this time. It released PixelJunk Shooter last December.

THQ Brian Farrell calls PS Motion Controller ARC
Holy Shit.

Looks like THQ CEO Brian Farrell just called Sony’s Motion Controller The Arc.

Sources told VG247 last month that it was called the Arc.

Sony registered the domain name, denied the name, and delayed the peripheral into fall.

Sony files patent for universal game controller
Sony has filed a patent for a universal game controller with the US Patent and Trademark Office.

The concept screens show a controller that can “emulate the controllers of popular game consoles, such as…the PlayStation, a controller made by Nintendo, Xbox game controllers made by Microsoft, Amiga CD-32 controllers, Atari Jaguar controllers, Gravis Gamepad controllers, Sega controllers, and Turbographics controllers.”

Sony’s controller shows a touch-screen LCD display, that uses button configurations of various gamepads with only one control scheme showing at a time, and up to three schemes are able to be stored within the controller. It can also be used as an alpha-numeric keyboard.

“It may now be appreciated that among other advantages, the controller provides for backward compatibility so that it may be programmed to emulate the key layout of an older controller that may no longer be available,” the filing reads.

Controller data will use a special receiver, it can be be loaded with rumble functionality, speakers, and can be powered by either a battery for wireless use or by the communication receiver.

More information can be found through the filing link up top.
